The Internet has become a very popular medium for finding jobs. However, there are so many websites and search engines to use, one can easily become overwhelmed or frustrated. Instead of blindly searching around the Internet, first narrow down what type of job you are looking for, or in what sector or for which company. Some of the best resources to use are government sites. Since local, state/provincial, and federal governments are looking for a wide variety of workers, it may be a good idea to start with them. Each level of government across the country has its own website with a page specifically devoted to employment opportunities. There may be internships, upcoming opportunities, or links to additional job search websites posted on there as well.
If you are looking to apply within a specific city or region, look for local job search websites. For example you might type in "Boston job opportunities" or "Ontario job search". If a commute is not a problem for you, then you might also want to look one or two towns over.
For new graduates, job hunting can also be a very stressful situation. You have your degree, but where do you go from here? Most campuses have a career resource center, which can put you on the right track to finding a job. As well, the school should have a job search website, perhaps like workopoliscampus.com, that allows employers to post ads specifically seeking new grads or senior college and university students. Furthermore, if you have a broader degree, try government agencies, larger museums, or national/international companies. Many of these organizations have a need for a broad spectrum of individuals with varying areas of expertise. Also, think outside the box and assess how your areas of study (and not just your major or minor) and acquired skills could translate to a whole host of positions.
Another option for using the Internet as a job hunting resource is putting your resume online on some of the larger job board sites. These sites allow you to post your resume and a brief description of your talents and qualifications. Potential employers will scan your resume and evaluate whether or not your experience and credentials match what they are looking for. This is also a good place for networking. Though X employer may not need your unique set of skills, he or she may know someone who does, and pass your information on to them.
Whichever method you choose to use, remember that patience, persistence, and consistency are key. Job search websites are always changing and being updated, especially government sites, so it is important that you make your job hunt a daily task. Also, do not get discouraged. No matter what state the economy is in, job hunting can be a lengthy process. Furthermore, before you submit your resume to any of the postings online, make sure that your document is neat, concise, and looks professional. You need to prove right from the start that you are a desirable candidate. Double and triple check spelling, grammar, punctuation, and overall format of the resume. Ask yourself "Does it looking appealing?" "Would I hire myself?" If the answer is No to one or both of these questions, give your resume a rewrite, or hire a professional to do it. In the long run, a professionally written resume is definitely worth the money, especially if it lands you your dream job.

5 Top Tips for Job Seekers

By RL Stevens

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Get started on your job search with the best basic tools:
1. Networking Business Cards: These are must-haves when meeting new people. Everyone is a connection and the easiest way to give them you information is to have it on a card. Besides your basic contact info, it should have your title, industry and area of expertise. Use good card stock and keep it simple. If you are in a creative field, you can get away with having it be more artsy.
1. Networking Business Cards: Use good quality card stock in a white, ivory, grey or other classy shade that matches your resume paper. State your name, title, industry and area of expertise. Indicate your contact number and your e-mail. Note: If you are in a creative field it's ok to be a little more artsy in card color and graphics. The card is an essential tool for exchanging your basic information with new a contact and it eliminates searching for a pen and a piece of paper.
2. LinkedIn Profile: This is the #1 professional online network going and millions of people around the world are members. They have their professional profiles listed, where they work, where they used to work, what schools they attended, what professional and educational groups they belong to and recommendations from former co-workers, clients and associates. You can learn a lot from a well-crafted profile including new contacts, companies to research and organizations that have members with the same interests and goals as you.
3. Your "Pitch": You know how to answer when someone asks you what you do when you are employed. You work for this company in this role doing these tasks. When you are unemployed, what do you say? "I'm looking for a new job." Well, you could. It's best to use the opportunity to your advantage. Create a 30-second to 1-minute story. State your experience and expertise, what you are looking for and what you can do for a prospective employer. "For 10 years I was the VP of Operations for ABC Company. My focus was on ___, ___ and ___. I am now interested in working for a ___company in the ___field, such as XYZ Co or DEF Co. My expertise in ___ will be applicable to their ___ division or product. (Throw in a success statistic.)" You get the picture. No sob story, no throwing the previous boss or company under the bus. Be positive, enthusiastic and open to suggestions. And if the person you are with is new to you, please ask them about what they do. It could be the start of a beautiful friendship!
4. Success Stories: Everyone has accomplishments from their work. Everyone. If you think about it, you can remember or uncover achievements that will help promote you as a good candidate. If you are having trouble, pretend you are going to have your annual review and you will get a salary increase for every measurable accomplishment you present to your manager. You'd find them. These examples show your ability to solve problems and address challenges an employer may have. Show them how you identified the circumstance, what conduct you chose to address the concerns and what the conclusion was. This simple strategy can be very impressive and says a lot about you, the way you work and what value you bring to the company.
5. Planned Activities: "Looking for a job is a FT job" as the saying goes." Work usually incorporates various activities: computer work, meetings, phone calls, paperwork, research, projects, client interactions, follow-ups, reports. It also may include prospecting for new clients, vendors or opportunities, selling a product or service and closing deals. All of these elements are present in your job search. You need to research companies of interest, prospect for contacts, create informational meetings, uncover opportunities, speak with company representatives, present your materials, sell your abilities, follow up and close the deal. To help keep you motivated, you must plan your time so you have goals, just like when you were working at a company. Having said that, when you were working you took a day off now and then and sometimes could rearrange your schedule to accommodate life. You should still do that in a job search. You can take time out during the day to do something of importance to you and make that time up in the evening. Give yourself a day off periodically. It's healthy and smart to be good to yourself. One final activity - once a week, try on your interview clothes to make sure they still fit! You'll be glad you did!

Promotional gifts are used all over the world and are a means to promote your business to other businesses and organisations. They not only serve as an advertising vehicle but also reflect the overall image of your organization. As part of your promotional campaign you could equip your employees with company branded clothing and name tags, to help reinforce your company identity, and add a professional touch. Choosing the right promotional business gifts can be a headache with so many available product choices, so it may be wise to take time to absorb, and maybe allow the company to advise you. It is proven that companies handing out promotional give-aways at an event usually attract more people than those companies that don't.
Printed mugs are one of the most popular promotional gifts due to their day to day use. They are probably one of the most functional gift items, and they also provide an excellent area to have your logo or brand message imprinted on them. Promotional mugs offer a wide reach and great exposure. A company`s printed mugs are very useful items that can help businesses retain their clients by reminding them of who they are and how they are valued. The many types of printed mugs and corporate gifts vary and they can range from bell mugs, Cambridge mugs, marrow mugs with company logos on, to promotional Sparta mug.
Another great promotional product is the promotional umbrella. These are great seasonal gifts that will hold a lot of value to its recipient. An umbrella is a mobile advertising tool. Each and every person, who has been given an umbrella, is a walking advertisement of your company and its product. With your imagination and creativity you can personalise the printed umbrella and design it according to your own choice making use of bright striking colours and an easy-to-remember slogan. Companies may keep promotional umbrellas in limited numbers to use them in special events or campaigns. Patio umbrellas are much larger than standard umbrellas and often come with a stand but can be a bit costly when imprinted. They do offer a huge advertising area though, which can be printed.
Promotional mouse mats are also a fantastic promotional item, due to their usability and print area. The average person spends around nine hours a day in front of their computers. On promotional mouse mats, you can have your company details, your favourite photo, your own design, or even a company logo. The chips used inside these drives are usually military grade meaning that they can handle extreme temperatures and vibration. If you are the athletic type, a runner or jogger, who likes to listen to their tunes during your workout you want to look into a flash drive player. They are very resilient, so you no longer have to worry about dropping it, or storing it near a magnet. You can literally store tens of thousands of documents and files on a single tiny flash storage drive.
These are just a few of the promotional products and business gifts that available to promote your company and its services. It's important that you choose the right products for your company to ensure that you are targeting the right audience. Management Tips

By G Web Ross

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

I will be presenting a series of articles relating examples that influenced my career during my 40 plus years in management. Some helped my career some were setbacks. While all may not be relevant to you, my hope is that they may spark an idea that will lead to advancement in your career or help you to avoid mistakes along the way.
Georgia Pacific was very supportive of our hometown community. The United Way was a large contributor to the philanthropic needs of Crossett and the surrounding area. The company had whole-heartedly supported their annual drive, but it had been going downhill and the drive had not met their goals over the past several years. They were having trouble getting volunteers to help with the drive and no one wanted to be Chairman. The board called a special meeting of some of the community leaders and simply said; "if we can't find a leader and sufficient volunteers we will have to disband the United Way fund".
I have always supported the concept of the United Way and I didn't want to see it fail. I knew the company felt the same way, so I volunteered to serve as Chairman. I felt with the right leadership we could have a successful campaign. The first thing I did was to enlist some key people I knew had the leadership abilities and influence in town. These included the publisher of the newspaper, the general manager of the radio station, a couple of innovative enthusiastic home makers, a manager of the electric utility who was respected among the business community, and representatives from each of the 3 mills in town.
The first thing we did was set a budget. It was intentionally set higher that the previous years' budget, which had not been met. Our rationale was to convey to the public that the committee had confidence in our success.
The next order of business was to erect a huge thermometer that charted our progress toward goal. We then held a town meeting featuring a band and speeches by community leaders. It wasn't a huge crowd, but we got great coverage from the newspaper and radio.
One of the past failures had been the length of the campaign. The solicitors didn't feel any sense of urgency and tended to procrastinate, in fact a lot of them didn't finish their solicitation. So the committee decided to shorten the campaign to 10 days. This was not a unanimous decision; a lot of people thought it could not be done in that short amount of time. I knew it would take a lot of planning for this to work and that's what we did.
On kick-off day everything was in place, all of the volunteers had their assignments, and were well versed on the urgency of completing their jobs within the time frame. Our committee created some publicity stunts to rally the town for the upcoming drive. We held a parade down Main Street, a car bash where we charged $1.00 for a sledgehammer blow. Even the children were involved. They set up lemon-aide stands throughout town. By doing this we generated a lot of great publicity. The newspaper and radio ran a series informing the public as to how the fund would be used to benefit the community. Therefore when the campaign started there was a lot of enthusiasm building, it was quite amazing to see the turn-around.
The first day of the campaign was a huge success. We took in pledges that amounted to 27 percent of our overall goal. I knew then that it was going to be a success. However with all my enthusiasm I didn't realize just how successful this was going to be. We made our goal in the first 6 days and by the end of the 10-day campaign we had pledges totaling 147 percent of our goal. That was the most money ever raised for a United Way drive in Crossett.
Even though it was not the reason I took on the Chairmanship, this was a huge boost for my career. My boss was a great supporter of the United Way, and he was delighted with the success of the campaign. I received complimentary letter of congratulations from the vice president of the Crossett Division, Mr. Bill Norman, and to my great surprise another very nice letter from Mr. Bob Pamplin, the President of Georgia Pacific. My point here is you can gain recognition by participating in community projects.
This next example of recognition turned out to be the turning point of my career. It was my first production job and provided me the opportunity to prove I was up for the task.
The tissue mill had been in operation for over a year, and while the paper machines were doing quite well, the converting department was struggling. They were not meeting their budget and had not turned a profit since start-up. They had consultants and corporate engineers from our other mills trying to help, but it just didn't come together. The manager decided to replace the converting superintendent. When I got wind of this I asked to have my hat thrown in the ring for his job. I had always wanted to get into production and from my perspective this was a great opportunity. I had been studying the operation and felt very confident that it could be turned around.
Before I even knew that I had the job, I developed a plan of action. The first day I took over I began to implement my plan. I met with the key people and asked for their input. Equipment down time was one of the major problems of the department. I felt the maintenance supervisor was very competent but seemed to be a bit lethargic in the execution of his duties and it pretty much permeated to his crew. The previous superintendent was a bit autocratic and began to micromanage those who worked for him. The maintenance supervisor was one of those people and he didn't like it. I think he basically waited to be told what to do before he responded to a problem; he just was not taking any initiative.
I had concluded that this man held a very important key to the success of this department, and I needed to cultivate him. I had established a solid relationship with him and he eventually became my confidant. I asked for his advice on a variety of issues, not all maintenance related, and he was very helpful. Maintenance people see a lot of things that the production supervisors don't see, and I got a lot of insight from him about some of our problems. But the real benefit came as his confidence grew and he began to creatively and enthusiastically solve his maintenance problems, again it permeated to his crew.
I established a measuring system to track our downtime on a shift-to-shift basis (we worked 3 rotating shifts 7 days a week; days, swing and graveyard). Within weeks we started to see a substantial improvement in downtime, which of course meant increased production.
On the production side, I established a large blackboard showing the previous shift's production. I placed it in a very prominent position so when the shifts changed, the oncoming shift would see the production from the previous shift. I didn't say a word about competition, but the workers picked up on it and the contest began. They each tried to improve upon the production of the previous shift. They didn't always do it, but I made sure when they did I was there to congratulate them.
The third month after I became superintendent we made a profit. To celebrate I held a good old Southern fish Fry for all the crews. They had each contributed to that profit and I wanted them to know that. Eventually we reached a plateau where it became more difficult to set records and the competition kind of fizzled out, but the production didn't. We ended up with a very good year, considerably above budgeted profit.
This is where I first developed the philosophy of team management. I inadvertently practiced this in this my first production job, and didn't realize what it was until I started reading about it several years later. I saw that by giving each employee ownership and responsibility and then following it up by providing support and recognition, inevitably success would follow. Later in my career I took on a monumental task of trying to educate an entire work force of about 2,100 people to use this management philosophy.
I must say I really enjoyed this experience; it was the most rewarding job I had held thus far in my career. I really thrived on the challenge of working toward goals that could be very accurately measured, and where success or failure was tangible. I also appreciated that no one was looking over my shoulder watching my every move-I was given the control to make a difference.
At one of the corporate meetings someone asked me how I accomplished this turnaround? My answer was simply this, "I didn't; the people did. I merely provided the support they needed to get the job done." And that's a fact!
In conclusion on my discussion of recognition, I would like to make the point that by far and away the best way to obtain recognition is your job performance. Make the extra effort to perform above expectations.
My next article will be discussing EDUCATION and the important role it will play in your career.

Employees Who Commit Corporate Espionage

By Gordon Basichis

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Who are you hiring as your new employee? Are you hiring an applicant who with his skill sets and attitude will prove a valuable asset to your working environment? Or you hiring someone who is less than what they seem? Worse still, are you hiring someone who may turn out to be a corporate spy.
According to a recent article in the New York Times, among other places, corporate espionage is on the increase. In a highly competitive global economy, companies will battle for the technological edge in order to advance their market share and compete with their rivals. Western Technology is the primary target. This is no longer a case of stealing military secrets, but even the most mundane proprietary developments are coveted by a rival group. As well as the usual weaponry and satellite and submarine technologies, rivals put their spies out their to garner such elements as the special chemicals in a package film coating, proprietary technology for more advanced fiber optics, and the advanced components and computers and hardware. There is really no end to what products and trade secrets offer allure to corporate spies. For each secret you can steal puts you one step closer to your competition without having to undergo the normally requisite research and development.
Spies have been caught stealing secrets from DuPont and a paint company, Valspar which uses special mixes in its pigments. An employee at Dow Chemical was recently arrested and charged with stealing proprietary data that is designed to improve the insecticide mix. There have been employees arrested for corporate espionage at General Motors, Ford, and Motorola. In fact there are few major companies who haven't experienced some type of corporate espionage. A good many just won't admit it publicly. In all, it cost hundreds of millions and even billions of dollars in lost revenue, annually. Corporate espionage results as well in the loss of thousands of American jobs.
The companies most responsible for corporate espionage are based largely in China, Russia, and Iran. Our old favorites. What else is new? China denies this, of course, as does Russia, Iran, and everyone else who would rather steal what they otherwise lack the resources to develop. But it's true. It has been true for decades. We Americans just love to live in denial.
Some of the spies are foreign nationals, but a good many are American citizens. More often than not it is an inside job, that is the spy works for the company. Either the worker deliberately targets a company to work for so he can target desire secrets, or the employee has been working there and suddenly decides to get frisky. There are any number of reasons a good employee can turn bad, can resort to criminal theft and risk years in jail. In intelligence parlance the term ascribed to most motivations for spying is MICE. Money, Ideology, Coercion, and Ego. Idoeology used to be a big factor but in this age of self-aggrandizement, it is pretty much a bygone consideration. Coercion works if you first lure someone to do something wrong, adultery, promiscuous behavior, things that can cost him, and then blackmail him. Ego is a favor, knowing you are pulling the wool over the eyes of your employers and friends. It is not directly related but Bernard Madoff is a perfect example of that. And then first in the list, and first in priorities, is...money.
What a shocker, people spy for money. You could chalk it off to a tight economy, or you could write it off as greed. You could contend that they have been trapped into some heart rendering situation and that they are doing it for the good of friends and family. Mainly, there is nothing like sticking a few illicit bucks in someone's pocket to get them going in the wrong direction. After you romance them first, of course. Long walks in the moonlight, lavish dinners, sweet nothings about you being oh so simpatico.
Some corporate spies are assigned to the task and are there to deliberate penetrate a company in order to pilfer its secrets. A rival group from China or elsewhere may have a wish list on its mind and send in the spy as a worker. But most are already working at the company when they are approached by outside sources. The sources either provide them with a wish list, that technology they most desire, or they pretty much leave the door open and tell the willing spy to get what they can. But then there are the more enterprising souls who seeing they are in the espionage worthy catbird seat initiate the contact and make an agreement with the rival companies. They let it be known that they are for sale and willing to walk out with every secret or piece of technology they can smuggle out in computer or briefcase.
As the global economy continues to become more competitive, you can be sure there will be more employees willing to spy for another concern. The cases of corporate espionage are difficult to prove and for the most part sentences are pretty light. The sponsoring or rival companies typically fail to cooperate with American authorities or corporations. They may tsk, tsk for the moment and make some noises about regret and the lamentable mishap, but more often than not they just deny any complicity. Additionally, when Human Resources personnel hire employees, they can conduct background checks and while some searches will raise some suspicions, it is still difficult to determine what kind of thief you are getting for his annual salary, vacation, and benefits. HR can check references and clock the work dates where the job applicants were employed at rival companies. If there are large gaps in their work history, this is a red flag. Criminal records are obvious but federal civil records and county civil records may reveal lawsuits former employers filed against your shiny new candidate.
Last year I had published my book, The Guys Who Spied for China. This was a roman a clef detailing how spies operating in America stole both military and industrial secrets, often selling prohibited materials to rival nations. My research and involvement with that book and the events therein was centered in the eighties and nineties. Every other day it seemed there were new headlines about Chinese Espionage efforts in the United States. Most were slanted toward the theft of military technology but some to corporate espionage. During that time some of the spies were Chinese Nationals, but most were American Citizens. Enterprising souls who took advantage of their positions for personal profit. Some went to jail. Some didn't.
But now here we are again. I should really say, here we remain, still dealing with this issue as we in the West try to sustain our technological edge and innovative advantages. As with most news cycles, these reports about corporate espionage are coming in waves with increased frequency. When news saturation reaches this point, I would venture that some influential people have become very alarmed. Finally.
Gordon Basichis is the author of the critically acclaimed, The Guys Who Spied for China, a roman a clef detailing Chinese Espionage in the United States. He is the best selling Beautiful Bad Girl, the Vicki Morgan Story, a non-fiction novel that helped define exotic sexuality in the late twentieth century. He is also the author of The Constant Travellers, a new age, fantasy Western. Basichis is also co-founder of Corra, which as the Corra Group specializes in employment background checks, as well as corporate research and investigation He has written a variety of articles, screenplays, and has worked as a marketing executive and journalist.

The Recession and Your Endless Search for a Job Are Over

By Sarah Weinberger

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Today's Los Angeles Times begs for a commentary, sadly not in a positive way. The problem with a lot of people in the media and in government is that they live in a bubble, separate from other people in the world and the problems they face. You hear citations of talking with "experts", economists and government officials of various kinds. Reading the paper is definitely an exercise in patience. Who needs yoga, when the media exists with the possible exception of Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.
Have you heard? The recession ended in June 2009. You should get at least one interview for every ten resumes that you send out (source today's Los Angeles Times), and the people that are suffering are those in finance and manufacturing. There was a third category, but I forget offhand what that was. Jobs are plentiful, if you live in places like Washington D.C. The Los Angeles Times blamed the high unemployment on a mismatch of where the jobs are to where people live. People in California suffer because jobs are plentiful outside of California.
I live in California and am quite familiar with the job situation and the causes here in California, most specifically with the greater Los Angeles.
I was telling a friend of mine today about what the L.A. Times said and my friend's comment was two things. One, and he is closer to being right on the first point, is that it takes more like submitting one thousand resumes for every interview unless you are absolutely 100% qualified and your resume gets to the right person and you are the right age and this and that and this and that. I could hear my mother saying, "And if my grandmother would have a penis, he would be my grandfather." Exactly! I added that one has to be around 28 years old too. They are the easiest to train, look up to companies as something special, are dirt cheap, and will work hard and long hours. He also likes to talk about the liberal media. He is a Rush Limbaugh ditto head, Glen Beck too. He is wrong, obviously, on the second point.
I keep carping on the same points, but they are valid. First off, engineers and other white collar workers seem be be forgotten. Secondly, I am familiar with the profession, but before talking about engineering further, I want to digress to tell a story that I heard.
I talked with my sister recently. She is a medical doctor and her husband works in a hospital. I was told that up until recently there was a woman, who came by every afternoon, picked up the Dictaphone, and brought back a written transcription the following day. After years of service, how do you think that she was rewarded? Did she get a raise? Yes, just not the kind that you are thinking about. She got a quick life from having a foot hand on her butt and tossing her out the door. She was laid off. Why? The hospital could hire a company, in India in this case, at half the cost.
I used to work at Verizon. Before going on, I will say that I loved that job, the people, and learned a lot. What is also true is that Verizon was guilty of not outsourcing one job, but virtually the entire engineering effort. Not only did quite a bit of interaction involve interfacing with the Indian team (numbering in the hundreds from what I could tell), but I would say that over 70% of the people in my building were Indian too working on an H1-B visa. I was one of only a few non-Indians. That mix was not good enough. Verizon decided to close that building and handle the remaining work in Texas, at least until 500 unlucky souls there got the ax. Verizon was laying people off left and right during my term there.
You may say that Verizon was a special case. Nope. My next job was even worse. Let me just say that the next time you fly on a 787 Dreamliner, you can think of the plane as an outsourced plane. The trend is getting worse, not better.
Of the companies that I have associated with in one form or another, most believe in outsourcing like many believe in spending $5 (per day) on a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Some people waste more than $5 per day. I know of at least two people that fit that bill.
I am not trying to be racist, far from it. Yes, companies have the right to go where labor is cheap. I agree with that statement. They do whatever the law permits.
Before continuing, I talked with a recruiter recently and was told the outsourcing figure. There are currently about 6 million people working currently in the United States on an H1-B visa. The government created the H1-B visa program, so that companies could hire talent that was not here in the United States. The H1-B visa program morphed into a program that does everything but what it was meant to do.
The trouble with engineering and many other industries is not the recession. The recession is responsible for some job loss, as was the housing bubble burst, but not all jobs. Manufacturing jobs got outsourced. "American" car manufacturers build most of their cars outside the United States. NAFTA is a fancy way of saying take jobs out of the United States. That was when the problem started. The problem started with manufacturing and spread to many other industries.
What is my comment about the article that I read that a person should get a minimum of one (1) interview for every ten resumes submitted? If I were to say horseshit, which was my first thought, I would be saying something bad about horses, and horses are nice creatures, so I will reframe from that thought. Is there a word to take its place?
As long as I am venting, illegal immigration plays a toll. I know the Republicans want to score brownie points with their base on this issue, but there are jobs lost in this way. I was at a well-known restaurant chain recently. They definitely hire knowingly illegal immigrants. One bragged to me that he came here illegally from El Salvador and makes $10 per hour. He holds two jobs. No, I am not making that up, and God alone only knows why he told me or was bragging to me on the topic. Common sense would say that he would be quite as a church mouse on this topic. Is he the only one, nope. I feel for his story, but the truth is that he is taking away a job from an American. Okay, illegal immigrants is a small percentage of the problem and outsourcing the white elephant, but even so.
Our former president said that migrant workers (that seems to whitewash the real phrase, no?) take on the jobs that no one else wants to. Okay, I still do not know of a word to replace horseshit, because that comes to mind. The truth is that there is no one that wants to work like a slave for $2 per hour in the fields or $10 per hour serving soup or warming potatoes for guests on Sundays. I agree with that. What would happen if we increased the wage to $25 in the field and in the restaurants?
What would happen if Congress got some Cojones and imposed a tax on H1-B visa and outsourcing, ff a company wants to outsource work, it would have to pay a tax of 20% plus 1.5 times the amount of money lost than if the jobs were done here? What would happen if a company had to pay $2 million tax per year for every H1-B applicant?
The cost of goods would go up (guess what folks, they do anyways), but at least everyone that wanted a job would have a job. They would be able to pay for goods.
Just to address one other point that I keep reading about in the papers and is so total whatever the word I should use (thoughts?). "We are in a deflationary time, blah, blah, blah."
Supercuts charges $2 more now than a few months ago, which is $2 more now than last year. Restaurants charge significantly more now than in the past. I am thinking of a certain national American Italian chain that doubled their prices in about a two to three year span. Rents have gone up. Groceries have absolutely gone up and not by a little bit. Gasoline has skyrocketed. Airline ticket prices have gone up. We live in a radically inflationary time, just people do not complain and the media and government ignore the facts.
Another sticking point, as long as I am bitching, is a certain bank agreeing to stop foreclosures. How about landlords agreeing not to collect rent and the courts agreeing not to hear any cases of tenants not paying rent, hence no evictions. Did I make my point? I am not being heartless either, far from it. Housing costs had exponential inflation, not because people wanted a home, but because people wanted to become rich off of it, flip properties so to speak. Yes, there are those that really did get hurt, but a lot more that played the game and should pay the price like the rest of us.
I totally get ticked off hearing that unemployment is bad and that people who receive it have a disinterest in finding real work. That is the Republican mantra. I am not even being biased. They really say that and a lot. I hear this view much more so than how most people in the GOP are against abortions and "Don't Ask Don't Tell." Every other speech this year seems to evoke how benefits should be cut and how employees are lazy. Are you?
Finding work is a tough lonely job under any circumstances and especially if you are out of work for long periods of time. They are not lazy and really do work. I cannot give work to people and nor can I pass legislation, but maybe in my own small way, I can help by creating a program that really does help job seekers get a job. I wrote JobFish, because there was no tool, which truly helped job seekers. There was no company that listened to their needs. ButterflyVista has tried to live up to the ideal to help people. It was written by a job seeker, who knows from experience what is required. JobFish has grown a lot this year by listening to all of you and incorporating many of the comments. ButterflyVista in the future will continue to do the same.
I hope that with these blogs that there will be a discussion started and a groundswell building so that jobs really do come back and not just temporarily and at the expense of someone else. Politics and jobs are interconnected; they always have been. Fixing the economy takes time. Fixing anything takes time, but breaking it is quick.

How to Prepare an Attractive Resume

By Jacoby Smith

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Are you tired of sending resumes without getting results? Do you think your resume isn't generating those interviews that you want? Do you want to stand out from the rest of all applicants and clinch that interview?
Research shows that 95% job interviews are granted after the employer has become interested in the candidate's resume. A good resume has to make an impression within the first 30 seconds. It will not only open the door to an interview, it will often get you to the final hiring decision of an employer. So how do you prepare an attractive resume? Here are some tips that you can follow.
Read the job advertisement. Many people only give a short glance to the advertisement and then proceed to send their pre made resume. That's a big mistake. The applicant should carefully read the qualifications mentioned and make the resume according to what it's asking. A good resume should fit the requirements and qualifications that the employer is asking for.
Select your resume format. It's a very strategic decision to find the appropriate format that will show off your skills to their advantage. This has a real impact on the receptivity employers have to your initiatives. There's no universal "right format" for all people. The most effective guide is to review your own objective and background to know which one is the best fit for you.
List your personal information. Include only personal pieces of information that are related to your job objective.
State your objective clearly. Be brief and concise but also be specific to the position you are applying for.
Highlight your qualifications. A summary of your qualifications is a good way of getting the attention of the prospective employer. This way you can catch his attention and then he can review your resume in a short time. It should get through the message that you have the credentials and basic skills needed for the job.
Present your relevant skills and experiences directly. Create a list that contains the name and city of the company, dates started and ended and job title. This should be in chronological order. Keep in mind that you don't have to put numerous details about previous jobs are that are not necessary. You can also include professional membership information or trade associations to show that you also have ongoing interests.
References upon request should be written at the bottom of the resume. References should no longer be part of a resume but you need to have your references available for a prospective employer. Always ask permission when using someone as a reference.
Print the resume on standard letter size; it should be professionally typed using conventional English. And finally, re- read your resume before the interview because chances are; the interviewer did just that too.

Employment, Jobs, Places, and Waiting Lines

By Rich Albright

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

The unemployed know the statistics. Their next job may eight to fourteen months away; meanwhile, their financial situation steadily deteriorates. They dip into meager savings, keeping a constant watch on spending. They may even get to the point where they face foreclosure and have to fight those proceedings. Unemployment is an ugly place to visit.
There aren't any rosy predictions for a recovery. Unemployment rates still hover around 9.6 percent with areas of the country at 12 percent and higher. So, where are the jobs?
Despite passing a watered down health care bill, the government reports that employment in the health care sector rose, adding about 20,000 jobs per month. The next highest employment sector was professional and business services adding about 17,000 jobs monthly. Manufacturing lost 27,000 jobs a month offsetting a majority of the gains in employment and aided by a loss government jobs due to the Census workers completing their short-term employment tasks.
The states with the highest unemployment rates were led by Nevada with an unemployment rate of 14% as of August, so you might want erase any thoughts of heading to the "All For Our Country" state. The other states above the 10% unemployment threshold were MI, yes, that's where the Big Three car makers reside, CA, FL, RI, SC, OH, OR, IL, IN, and GA. It's ugly out there.
Looking for employment? Statistics might indicate the best prospects are in states with the highest employment rates. These states, led by the Dakotas, all have unemployment rates below seven percent and include: North Dakota at 3.7% and South Dakota at 4.5%, followed by NE, NH, VT, WY, KS, HI, and IA.
So a move to any of the high prospect states, providing you can sell or walk away from your current location might be your best option. Or is it? Most state governments are trimming budgets and jobs. Standing in line without inside connections might not reap any benefits. On the other hand, education employment in these states might prove to be a viable option as education spending is up slightly. It makes sense as more people are opting to return to college or take certificate courses in order to land that next position.
Another option is self-employment; however, for those struggling to stay afloat, this option isn't likely. Start-up businesses require cash and usually aren't in the black for extended periods. They require a cash reserve and nerve to go it alone. Franchised businesses are also an option for the self-employed, but they add fees to any start-up venture and usually have recurring fees based on gross sales.
Part time work should be a consideration if you have been unemployed for any length of time and these opportunities might lead to full time employment. Overall, keep sending out resumes, continue building your network, and don't forget to follow up on those promising prospects with a phone call to the hiring manager.

Career Opportunities for Deaf People: Starting Further Education and Work Life

By Jamie Simpson

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

There is absolutely no reason that a deaf or hearing impaired child cannot grow up to be successful in almost any profession. With the right training, deaf and hearing impaired people can learn to lead very fulfilling lives. Lip reading, sign language, and speech training can open doors for the deaf, and prepare them for higher learning, even in Ivy League Universities. These schools can open doors to career opportunities in all career fields, by giving young people the skills they need to excel.
Because not all states have schools for the deaf it is often necessary for parents to send even small children hundreds of miles away from the rest of the family. While this is an almost inconceivable sacrifice for the parents, in many cases it is the only way to give a hearing impaired child an opportunity to learn skills they will need for the rest of their lives.
The good news is that once the child has learned these skills they become more independent and are capable of enrolling in most any academic program including distance learning, private school, home school or even public schools once they learn the basic skills they need. Early education is very important, but schools for the deaf are helpful at any age. Young people can learn the skills they need and go on to be successful in other academic and career situations.
Other advantages to schools for the deaf include socialization with other deaf students, and specially trained faculty who understand the needs of the hearing impaired. There is a certain sense of reassurance and solidarity that occurs in schools for the deaf, as people who have always felt different from others, come together to discuss problems they encounter in dealing with the hearing world outside.
Often public school children are made to feel different from their peers for any number of reasons, but the hearing impaired feel this even more acutely. Because one of their sensory organs is disabled they often feel isolated from others even in a crowd. Most people equate silence with being alone, and sometimes the deaf feel this most acutely of all. The feelings of acceptance they feel around other deaf children, can be a profound relief to children who have been made to feel different in the past. Many children prefer to stay in schools for the deaf and go on to teach in schools for the deaf for this reason. Other children eagerly anticipate returning to their families and communities with new skills which will enable them to truly communicate the emotions they always felt for them.
There are many scholarships and financial aid options open for the deaf to attend college, so that education, even higher education doesn't have to be a financial burden on the parents. Hearing impaired teens are eligible for many scholarships including up to $10,000 from the Alexander Graham Bell Foundation, and $3,000 from the Minnie Pearl Ear Foundation. In addition the State Colleges of Texas wave all tuition and fees for deaf students, and the Cochlear Corporation offers a scholarship to those who have Cochlear implants.
Training at a school for the deaf is crucial to obtaining a completely independent lifestyle. The skills they learn will last a lifetime, enriching their experiences and opening doors that would otherwise be closed to them. In today's society the future is bright for the deaf, provided they can learn the skills necessary to live effective and fulfilling lives.

Work at Home Job Search Tips: How to Find Work at Home Companies

By Alison Doyle

Company web sites are among the best sources of work at home jobs. For example, 1-800-Flowers.com is recruiting agents for its Work from Home Customer Service team. Position details, including qualifications and hardware, software, and Internet requirements, plus an online application are available on the 1-800-Flowers.com web site.
A few more examples - Hilton hires work from home reservations and service specialists, CompuCom hires Java Script developers for telecommuting positions, and Tenet Health Care hires medical coding specials who work virtually from home.

Market a Used Car through Newspaper Classifieds

By Keith Griffin

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Newspapers are still a viable means for selling a used car. Just make the right choice when it comes to the newspaper you use. Otherwise, you’re going to be throwing good money after bad.
Do you have a fairly common used car you want to sell? Your best bet is going to be a smaller daily newspaper. Why? Your ad is not going to get lost among lots of other ads for the same vehicle. There’s actually little reason to post an ad for a 2005 Pontiac G6 in a large newspaper that has access to a website like cars.com with its listings.
Instead, put your ad in your regional daily newspaper. The aim is not always to reach the widest market. You want to reach the market that is going to buy your car.
Put yourself in the buyer’s shoes. There are three Pontiac G6s for sale. One is 10 miles away. Another is 25 miles and the third is 50 miles. A perusal of my Sunday classifieds unveiled that same scenario. Frankly, with all three roughly the same price, I’m going to buy the car that’s roughly in my neighborhood.
There is another advantage to advertising in smaller publications: ads run longer for a similar (if not lower) price. Here’s one example from two Connecticut publications where I live:
Journal Inquirer (Manchester, CT) - Automotive Sure Deal - Sure Deal Classifieds $41.50 - for items priced $1000 or over. 5 lines for 30 days, includes a photo if provided. Private party advertisers only selling autos or merchandise, no refunds. $4 each additional line.
Hartford Courant (Hartford, CT) - 7 Days Print - 14 Online - Renew Print - $45 - 4 lines, 7 days in the Courant - One free photo in print ad - Expanded ad on cars.com for 14 days - One free 7-day print renewal - Add'l print lines available for $11.35 per line - For private party customers only - 3 of your photos on cars.com.
The Journal Inquirer ad is the better value because the ad runs for longer, at a lower price, with an additional line of space. The downside is there is no online component to the ad, but there are also not a lot of waste eyeballs look at your used car ad.
One final piece of advice: stick with paid newspapers that people have delivered to their homes or offices. Specialty publications that you find at your Chinese takeout restaurant are good options for advertising your used car.

Basic SEO Checks:
Basic elements of SEO to fix.
  • Is the keyword phrase good?
    Yes
This is a great keyword phrase. It gets lots of searches. But because it's so popular it could be very competitive.
  • Where is the keyword phrase found?
Image alt text; With a keyword density of: 0%
Good use of link titles to get the keyword phrase in. However, since there is no actual text on the page, the keyword phrase isn't really found by search engines (or people searching, for that matter).
Advanced SEO Checks:
  • How many links are there to the page?
    0
It's important to get related sites to link to your site with the keyword phrase you're trying to optimize for.
  • When was the page last modified?
    November 16, 2008
Pages that are modified with significant content changes do well in search engines, but constant little changes can hurt your ranking.
  • Does the page validate?
    CSS - yes
Accessibility is the most important, but having valid HTML ensures that the spiders can read the page.
Negative SEO:
Elements of SEO that can hurt your rank.
  • Hidden content in
    None Good!
  • URLs that are difficult to read
    None Good!
  • Spammer tricks (that could get you banned)
    None Good!
Other SEO Thoughts:
If you find it difficult to get good ranking for this phrase, you might want to consider making it more specific to the topic or audience of the site. But honestly, the real problem with this page is that there is virtually no text on it at all. Search engines need text to tell them what the page is about - and meta data, no matter how much you put in, is ignored by search engines. If you want your page to be found in search, you need to add human readable text on the page that includes your keyword phrase.

Digital Prepress vs. Traditional Prepress

By Jacci Howard Bear

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

While design, document preparation, prepress, and printing can be viewed as separate areas, they are all intertwined. Prepress, using traditional methods or digital prepress, encompasses the entire process of taking a document from an idea to a final product.
Prepress Affects Design and Printing
Strictly speaking, prepress begins after the design decisions are made and ends when the document hits the press, but in practice the graphic design process must take into account the traditional or digital prepress process and limitations and the printing methods in order to be a successful design.
Digital Prepress Requires Fewer People
For many of us who might never have worked in publishing prior to the advent of desktop publishing, digital prepress may be the only type of prepress we know or understand. But before PageMaker and laser printers there was a whole other industry (and a lot more people) involved in getting a book or a brochure published.
To help understand the differences and similarities in the two processes, it is helpful to see a comparison of conventional or traditional and digital prepress tasks including the design process. You may immediately notice how many different jobs the designer takes on now that desktop publishing software has replaced (or substantially changed) the job of the typesetter, paste-up professional, stripper, and others.

Starting a New Job

By Dawn Rosenberg McKay

Your first day is here. That time off sure flew by, didn't it? Put on the one suit that you know makes you shine. If you feel confident, you'll look confident to others. Whether you're driving to work or using mass transit, be sure to leave plenty of time to get there early. Treat it like a job interview, and remember first impressions do count. Eat breakfast before you leave your house -- fresh breath and clean teeth (no poppy seed bagels, please) are a must.
Your work day begins when you leave your house. You never know when you'll come into contact with your co-workers or boss. A friend of mine was driving to work one day when a car swung around her and the driver made a hand gesture (you know the one) at my friend. He didn't see my friend's face, but she saw his. It looked familiar and then my friend remembered why. He was her most recent hire, starting work that very day. She attributed his action to nerves, and hasn't said a word to him. Yet. You shouldn't make lewd hand gestures regardless of who the recipient may be, but if you are tempted to, just think of the other person as being a potential boss, co-worker, or client.
So you finally made it to your new workplace. Now take a deep breath and walk in with a smile on your face. Keep your head up and remember to make eye contact. Be polite and friendly to everyone you encounter, whether it's the receptionist or the mailroom clerk, your colleagues or your new boss. Introduce yourself to those you meet and remember that it's okay to ask questions. People generally like to help others and it usually makes them feel good about themselves. I remember a new co-worker who refused all offers of help. I guess she thought it would make her look incompetent to our boss. The result was that everyone thought she was a snob or a know-it-all and some people even vowed to refuse to help her in the future.
While it's okay to hold onto some of things you learned in your previous jobs and use that knowledge in your new job, remember that every workplace has it's own way of doing things. Your first few weeks or even months on a job is not the time to change the way things get done. Do not utter these words: "That's not how we did it at my old company." Your colleagues will just be thinking this: "Well, you're not at your old company and if you liked it so much why didn't you stay there."

What Does A Manager Do?

By F. John Reh

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

What Does A Manager Do? One of the first lessons a beginning manager must learn is that good managers don't Do anything. A manager's role is to manage the people who do actually do the work. The manager's role is to make the group more effective than they would be without him/her.
That doesn't mean that managers spend all day sitting around with their feet up on the desk drinking coffee. Most managers I know work very hard and work longer hours than anyone on their teams. So what do managers do? Read on.

Build A Team

One of the first things you have to do as a manager is to build your team. Usually, when you become a manager, your team is already in place. You may need to add a few people or replace some people. Don't be in a hurry. Learn about your team and the people on the team before you shake things up. Don't feel you have to prove you're the manager. Take the time to think things through before you make major changes.
  • Job Interview Questions to Ask
  • Right People in the Wrong Jobs

Motivate Your People

The simplest way to make your team more productive is to motivate them. Motivating people can be a real challenge for many managers because it is so different for each person. You will find that what works to motivate one person won't work for another and will actually be a demotivator for still another. As a manager, you need to find the unique motivators for each member of your team.
  • How Do I Motivate Employees?

  • Team Building

Run The Business

While you are motivating your team, you have to stay focused on the business itself. Managers must handle many specific tasks, mostly related to personnel actions and financial transactions, to keep the company functioning. You will have to make decisions daily about the correct way to do things and to keep your team function as a part of the whole company. It doesn't matter how well your unit performs unless it is in sync with the rest of the company.
